Miami bar opens in Ipswich town centre replacing the old New York Exchange

A new bar and nightclub with an American theme has opened its doors for the first time this weekend in a town centre.

The new bar, called Miami, welcomed guests on Friday following a soft launch last weekend where customers were able to see inside the new venue in Ipswich.

David Thomas, who lives in the town and is the owner of The Purple Shop in Fonnereau Road, bought the former New York Exchange Bar and is now looking forward to how the bar gets on after a successful first couple of nights.

“The opening was great fun and it felt like a family affair, but with the public as well,” he said.

“We’re now looking forward to the return of Reckless, the Monday Rock nights, starting tomorrow.

“We’re also very excited, as we have an up and coming female grime MC FFSYTHO?! and Black Parade Emo Night at the end of the month to look forward to.

Mr Thomas, 33, who is also a rapper by the name of Briti$h, added that he was grateful to his business partner Leyla Edwards for her help, as well as Adam Perkins, Bobby Dolphin, Brad Harrison and Jake Beautyman too.

The bar is heavily themed on those in Miami, Florida, where Mr Thomas spent 10 years living and features surfboards, American sports memorabilia and even props from Madame Tussauds.
