Flood alerts in place for parts of Suffolk and Essex, including Ipswich, Felixstowe, Clacton, Beccles and Woodbridge

Multiple flood alerts have been issued in Suffolk due to high winds and strong tides being forecast.

The Environment Agency has warned that parts of the coast between Felixstowe and Clacton, including Ipswich, are at risk of flooding between 1.15pm and 3.15pm today.

This means low-lying footpaths and roads along the River Orwell and River Stour might become waterlogged.

In addition, another alert is in place at Southwold between 11.15am and 1.15pm today.

A third warning is in place along the Deben estuary, putting residents living in Felixstowe Ferry, as well as riverside parts of Woodbridge and Waldringfield, at risk of flooding between 1.15pm and 3.15pm.

Also, those living along the River Waveney between Ellingham and Braydon Water should also take care.

A flood warning was issued for the area yesterday and high water levels are expected to remain for a few days due to water travelling from Great Yarmouth.

The Environment Agency expects to see high water levels at Beccles Quay.

A final warning, also issued yesterday, remains in place for the River Yare, from Thorpe St Andrew to Breydon Water.

All of these alerts are in place due to strong winds and high tides, which could result in large waves and sea spraying onto the land.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “Take care on coastal roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are monitoring the situation.”
