Man from Ipswich area arrested following suspected attempted murder in Brantham near Ipswich




A man has been arrested in connection with the suspected attempted murder of a 57-year-old woman in Suffolk.

Anita Rose, 57, was found injured and unconscious, lying face down on a track near Rectory Lane in Brantham on Wednesday, July 24, at around 6:25am.

She had been walking her dog, a springer spaniel named Bruce, after leaving her house around 5am.

Anita suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Suffolk Police arrested a 45-year-old man from the Ipswich area at around 1pm today on suspicion of attempted murder.

The man is being questioned at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

The police confirmed that the suspect is not believed to be known to the victim at this time.

Specialist officers are supporting Anita’s family and keeping them updated as the investigation continues.

Detective superintendent Mike Brown said: “We are still looking to establish the exact circumstances leading to this incident, but our initial enquiries are underway, and these will continue over the weekend.

“We continue to be extremely grateful for the support the community and the media have given us so far. This assistance we receive is absolutely key.

“A presence of officers is likely to continue in the area for the next few days with reassurance patrols. These officers are available to speak to concerned members of the community. These officers will also be conducting house to house enquiries, searching through CCTV footage and continuing on-going forensic work.

“This is a fast-moving investigation, and we are appealing to the local community for any further information which may aid this investigation, though we ask no speculation be made on social media in regard to this investigation.”

Yesterday, Anita's family expressed their devastation over the incident and released a statement through the police.
