Ipswich man arrested after two women injured in crash outside Spoon restaurant in St Matthew’s Street

A man has been arrested after two women were injured in an Ipswich town centre crash over the weekend.

Officers were called to St Matthew’s Street, outside Spoon World Buffet and Bar, at 4.15pm on Saturday.

A pair of pedestrians, both women, were injured after a grey Vauxhall Astra mounted the pavement and hit them.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said the motorist then fled the scene without stopping.

Paramedics were then alerted, taking both women to hospital.

One of the victims suffered a head injury and bone fractures – but they are not believed to be serious or life-threatening.

Yesterday afternoon, officers arrested a 43-year-old from Ipswich on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an incident, as well as driving without both a licence and insurance.

He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and released under investigation.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash.

Motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident, with a dashcam fitted to their vehicle, should check footage that could help officers with their investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to get in touch with the Roads and Armed Policing team at the Martlesham headquarters, quoting incident reference, 37/4532/25.
