Marcus McKenzie, of Victoria Street, Ipswich, in Suffolk Magistrates’ Court after admitting string of thefts in Ipswich and Woodbridge
A man has appeared in court after admitting a string of thefts including more than 50 tins of meat.
Marcus McKenzie, 36, of Victoria Street, Ipswich, went before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court yesterday after previously indicating he was guilty on March 3 to nine separate thefts from shops in Ipswich and Woodbridge between June 3 and January 21.
He admitted to stealing more than £1,500 worth of food, drink, alcohol, clothing and cleaning items.
On January 21, McKenzie targeted the Co-op in Foxhall Road, Ipswich and stole items worth £250.79 including:
- 18 tins of Princes corned beef
- 24 tins of red salmon
- 10 tins of Princes stewed steak
- One Batchelors mac and cheese
- Three Princes mince beef and onion
- One Nesquik strawberry milkshake powder
The other eight thefts took place in 2024 including:
On June 3, stealing £151.78 worth food and laundry items from an East of England Co-op in Ipswich as well as 11 persil gels, costing £112.75, from a Tesco in Ipswich.
On June 6, he stole £174.36 worth of fish and meat products and £129.27 of food and laundry items from East of England Co-op, both in Ipswich.
On June 7, McKenzie stole £174.36 of alcohol from an East of England Co-op in Woodbridge alongside £56.25 of cleaning products from an East of England Co-op in Ipswich.
On June 14, he took various items of an unknown value from an East of England Co-op in Woodbridge.
On September 23, in Ipswich, stealing £496.82 of clothing belonging to TK MAXX.
As well as this McKeznie admitted, on the date of the TK MAXX theft, while under arrest in Martlesham Heath he failed to provide a ‘non intimate sample’ to test if he had a Class A drug.
Yesterday, the court ordered a pre-sentence report be completed before a sentence was handed down.
McKenzie will now be sentenced in the same court on May 14.
