Woodbridge Road East roadworks outside Ipswich Hospital to be extended

Roadworks along a major route in Ipswich have been extended.

Repairs along Woodbridge Road East outside Ipswich Hospital, which began on Monday, are being extended until next Friday.

Suffolk Highways revealed the repairs on damaged drainage pipes are taking longer than expected.

Additional time on site may be needed at a later date, but this has yet to be confirmed.

The roadworks were originally set to end tomorrow, September 4.

Suffolk Highways said on Twitter that there will be no roadworks on the diversion route until the road is reopen to the public.

However, the use of nearby roads has caused backlash.

Residents of Humber Doucy Lane, located a short way away from the diversion, have expressed anger at the number of drivers using the road as a diversion.

The backlash was so strong that Suffolk Highways put up a sign to urge drivers to not use it as a diversion route.

Playford Road has also seen a sign labelled 'Access Only'.

As such, Suffolk Highways is also urging drivers to use the official diversions which go down Spring Road, Heath Road and Foxhall Road.

The closure affects a high traffic area that brings together roads leading from both the A12 towards Kesgrave and the A14 towards Felixstowe.
