Large fire at Rushmere Golf Course in Ipswich prompts huge firefighter response




Multiple fire crews have been called to a Suffolk golf course this evening following reports of a large fire.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at Rushmere Golf Course on Rushmere Heath in Ipswich at 5.40pm.

Currently there are six crews at the scene including two from Ipswich East, one from Woodbridge and one from Needham Market.

Images from the town show plumes of smoke are visible all around the area.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said crews are working to extinguish the fire using hosereel jets.

They added that teams are making 'good progress' to put it out.

The public have been urged to avoid the area and residents have been told to keep their doors and windows closed.
