Irfan Latif, new headmaster of Royal Hospital School in Holbrook, near Ipswich, speak of hopes as he steps into the role




A Suffolk independent school’s new headmaster has spoken of his hopes as he steps into the role.

Irfan Latif said it was an honour and privilege to take up the reins of headmaster of the Royal Hospital School in Holbrook, near Ipswich, on September 1.

Having a distinguished teaching career behind him, he joined the school under the belief that education can change lives.

He replaces Simon Lockyer, who had served as headteacher since 2016.

Mr Latif hoped to build on the school’s existing reputation.

He thanked the school for its warm welcome, kindness and support as he settles into the role.

Mr Latif said: “I look forward to charting a new course for RHS, during these exciting times for the school after it secured the highest GCSE results ever and the highest percentage of A* results at A-Level this summer.

“These accomplishments reflect the dedication and hard work of our brilliant pupils and excellent staff.”

Mr Latif previously served as the principal at DLD College London, from 2018.

Before this, he was headmaster of Sexey’s School, in Bruton, Somerset, and deputy head (Academic) at Bedford School, among other roles across London and the home counties.

Mr Latif holds a degree in chemistry from King’s College, London, and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Buckingham.

His arrival marked the beginning of an ‘exciting new chapter for RHS’, he said, one filled with promise, innovation and growth.

Trevor Rowell, chairman of RHS’s Board of Governors, said: “We are delighted that RHS has attracted a headmaster of such energy and talent.

“The future holds challenges for all schools but is rich with opportunity – and Irfan is just the right person for the times.

“We look forward with excitement to the experience and new ideas that he brings, and to a bright future for the school.”

Mr Latif wished to build on the school’s success and celebrate its values which which he said formed its strong foundations.
