Saxmundham holiday park launches investigation after chlorine leak in swimming pool
An investigation is underway at a Suffolk holiday park after two children were taken to hospital following a chemical leak in a swimming pool yesterday.
Emergency services, including nine fire engines, were called to Carlton Meres Holiday Park near Saxmundham at about 2.46pm after reports of a leak in an infant pool.
The region's ambulance service said two adults and four children were assessed at the Rendham Road site, and two children were taken to Ipswich Hospital for further treatment.
Today, Parks Holidays UK, which runs Carlton Meres Holiday Park, confirmed that the indoor swimming pool had re-opened to guests.
A spokesman said it came after a full safety inspection of the pool and plant earlier in the day, and the go-ahead to re-open was given by the area's Environmental Health Officer.
He said the pool closed yesterday after a "small amount of excess chlorine was discharged into the water".
"The amount of chlorine is not believed to have been sufficient to have posed any serious risk to those present, but as a precautionary measure, seven people were assessed at the scene by the ambulance service, and two infants were taken into hospital for observation," he added.
"The park management team and company's health and safety specialists are now investigating the circumstances of the incident, and we are sorry for any distress caused to those involved."
