Planned closure for roadworks on A14 at Trimley St Martin called off as heavy rain is forecast

A section of the A14 in Suffolk which was set to be closed by Highways England ahead of roadworks this evening has been cancelled as heavy rain is forecast overnight.

The A14, which connects Felixstowe to the Midlands via Cambridge, was earmarked for overnight closure on weeknights 9pm to 5am from September 30 to October 29 from Junction 58 to 59 at Trimley St Martin, in between Ipswich and Felixstowe.

But this afternoon the Highways England East Twitter account said the closure, which was to allow resurfacing and additional maintenance works to take place, has had to be called off this evening due to predicted persistent rain throughout the night.

According to the Met Office, there is a 90 per cent chance of heavy rain in the area between 1am and 5am.
