Funding on offer for Ipswich organisations to reflect on Covid-19 five years on

Funding is on offer for organisations in Ipswich which wish to reflect on the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ipswich Borough Council is inviting community groups, charities and more to request funding to help support the events, to be held on Covid-19 Day of Reflection on March 9.

The cash would cover the costs of things such as refreshments as communities come together to remember those who lost their lives five years on.

On the day, the authority will also free up space at Gainsborough and Whitton Sports Centres for local groups to host their events free of charge.

It will also plant a tree at Alderman Road Recreation Ground in March to mark the occasion and commemorate those lost.

Cllr John Cook, portfolio holder for communities and sport, said: “The Covid-19 pandemic impacted us in so many ways, so it’s important that we take this time to reflect and support one another.

“As part of our commitment to supporting our communities, we are offering grant funding and the free use of two of our community spaces to help support local groups who are holding reflective events on Sunday 9 March.”
