Suffolk flood warning issued for towns including Ipswich, Felixstowe and Woodbridge

Flood warnings have been issued for parts of Suffolk that lie near rivers as high tides are expected.

The Environment Agency has released alerts for minor flooding to coastal roads and footpaths lying along the Stour, Orwell and Deben estuaries between 10.45am and 12.30pm tomorrow.

This means low-lying areas in Ipswich, Martlesham, Woodbridge and Felixstowe could be at risk.

The flood gates at Felixstowe seafront will be closed, while the waterfront at Pin Mill, and The Strand at Wherstead under the Orwell Bridge may be flooded and water may be on the quay at Mistley.

Tide levels will be high around Felixstowe Ferry hamlet at the end of Ferry Road, and along riverside areas in Woodbridge and Waldringfield and the surrounding marshland.

This comes following a period of heavy rain.

On its website, the Environment Agency said: "The current series of high spring tides has now reached its peak, and will fall away over the next few days.

"Take care on coastal roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are monitoring the situation and not expecting it to escalate.

"We will update this message by 1pm on Wednesday after the tide has passed."
