Flood alert issued for parts of Suffolk and Essex, from Felixstowe to Clacton, including Ipswich

A flood alert has been placed across parts of Suffolk and Essex due to expected high tides.

The Environment Agency has warned that parts for the coast, from Felixstowe to Clacton, including Ipswich, are at risk of flooding between 11am and 1pm today.

This means that low-lying paths and footways along this stretch may become waterlogged.

This is because tides are expected to be higher than normal.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “The flood gates at Felixstowe seafront will be closed.

“The waterfront at Pin Mill, and The Strand at Wherstead under the Orwell Bridge may be flooded. Water may be on the quay at Mistley.

“The current series of high spring tides has now reached its peak, and will fall away over the next few days.

“Take care on coastal roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are monitoring the situation.”
