First 10 homes on old BT site at Bibb Way, Ipswich, completed

The first 10 homes built at a former BT site in Ipswich have been completed.

Handford Homes, owned by the borough council, is working on the construction of 150 houses in Bibb Way.

As part of the project, the old office block is being repurposed into 78 one or two-bedroom flats, while a further 72 homes will be built on the former car park and data centre.

Of the 10 completed, four are two-bedroom homes while the remaining six contain three bedrooms.

They are available to rent as part of the first phase, with the remaining homes set to be completed by late spring.

Cllr Alasdair Ross, the borough council’s portfolio holder for housing, said the homes had been handed over to the council and are ready for the first tenants to move into.

He added: “It’s fantastic to see this prominent, former BT site transformed into a new development, providing much needed homes to the local area.”

Colin Kreidewolf, chairman of Handford Homes, described them as high quality homes that would improve the area.
