Firefighters remain at blaze at Valencia Waste Management in Great Blakenham, near Ipswich




Firefighters continue to battle a blaze at a waste management site near Ipswich.

Crews were called to Valencia Waste Management, Great Blakenham, at 5.36pm.

In total, two fire engines, plus a UNIMOG and water carrier from Newmarket were called to the scene.

The blaze broke out at an articulated dump truck at the site.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service confirmed one engine remained at the scene.

At 7am today, the spokesman said: “The fire initially caused a significant plume of smoke and residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed as a result.

“A single crew remained on site overnight and progress is being made to extinguish the fire.

“The smoke levels have now reduced, and the local resident advisory has since been lifted.”

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service provided another update at 11.30am.

It said: “The fire within the vehicle has been extinguished and the vehicle has been moved to another part of the site.

“A crew remains on the scene to dampen down the original area of the fire. Currently the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Police were also called to the scene but there were no casualties.
