Fire at block of flats in Yeoman Close, Ipswich, prompts massive emergency services response
Firefighters are battling a blaze at an Ipswich block of flats, with people urged to avoid the area.
A total of 20 fire crews have been called to the scene in Yeoman Close, just off Yarmouth Road, which was first reported just before 2pm today.
Black smoke has been seen billowing from the roof of the flat block, with eyewitnesses having reported seeing firefighters on the roof of the building.
Onlookers also gathered to watch as firefighters spray water into the building through the roof.
An eyewitness said there was a strong smell of smoke in the area.
Police, ambulance crews and the East Anglian Air Ambulance are also in attendance.
Yeoman Close is currently closed and the A1214 is closed from the junction with the A1071.
It is currently unknown if there are any injuries.
And a fire service spokesperson has said crews are likely to be on the scene until later this evening, as they advised people to avoid the area if possible.
