Driver arrested in Ipswich as police discover suspected stolen cooking oil

A driver has been arrested after being found with barrels of suspected stolen cooking oil.

Suffolk Police stopped a vehicle in Ipswich yesterday afternoon, following reports of a suspicious vehicle on Bucklesham Road.

Officers conducted an inquiry into the vehicle, which was linked to thefts.

Upon being stopped, police found several barrels of suspected stolen cooking oil in the back of the vehicle.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Police said it is thought they were stolen from Essex.

Similar crimes have occurred across Suffolk.

The owner of CASA in Bury St Edmunds spoke out against cooking oil thieves in September, a few months after it and another restaurant, Gastrono-me, were targeted.

Suffolk Police also issued a warning to those in the catering industry, to ensure supplies are secure to deter thieves.
