Carolers from Ipswich Hospital Band, St Peter's Band, and Saints Community Band spread festive joy in Ipswich in aid of cancer support
Carolers who brought festive cheer and generosity to the streets of Ipswich have raised £4,000 for cancer support.
A trio of bands performed more than 40 carol services throughout the town during December.
Ipswich Hospital Band, St Peter's Band, and Saints Community Band came together, performing in small groups in high-volume areas such as the high street or outside supermarkets.
They even sang to people outside Ipswich Hospital on Christmas Day – raising a total of £4,000, split evenly between Cancer Support Suffolk and Ipswich Hospital Band Ltd.
The cheque was presented to the cancer support charity during a band rehearsal on February 10.
All three bands expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all those who donated and the businesses and venues that hosted the carols.
Maggie Porter, engagements coordinator at Ipswich Hospital Band, said, offered her thanks to the ‘wonderful people of Ipswich’ for their generosity.
She said: “Every contribution helps make a real difference, and we are proud to have been part of this fundraising effort."
Cancer Support Suffolk educates people on the signs and symptoms of cancer and supports patients through treatment and beyond.
The money will help sustain and expand these services.
Mark Murphy, chief executive of Suffolk Cancer Support, said: "The support from the bands has been incredible.
“They played in all weathers to entertain the Christmas shoppers in Ipswich, and the money raised will enable us to help support local cancer patients and their families."
