Ipswich pub The Waterlily, which was forced to close due to suspected links to crime, could reopen at The Pony and Trap under new manager

An Ipswich pub which was forced to shut due to its suspected links to crime could soon open under a new name – and fresh management.

Charlie Ross has submitted a licensing application to Ipswich Borough Council, seeking to reopen The Waterlily, in St Helen’s Street.

If approved, it would change its name to The Pony & Trap.

Last month, Larry Graham, who leased the pub out to a tenant, lost the licence for The Waterlily.

Police raised concerns to Ipswich Borough Council following incidents including a stabbing, drug busts, assaults and the discovery of a weapon.

Mr Ross is seeking to sell alcohol on the premises from 11am to midnight, Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 11pm on Sundays.

In addition, it is hoped music can be played from noon to midnight, Monday through Friday, from 11am to midnight on Saturdays and 11am to 11pm on Sundays.

There are also plans for live music and indoor sporting events.

Residents are urged to submit representations against the plans before January 1.
