Star Wars actors Ross Sambridge and Chris Bunn and cosplayers attend Geek Retreat Ipswich Mini-Con

A 'fabulous' cosplay competition and the chance to meet Star Wars actors ensured a town convention went off with a bang at the weekend.

Geek Retreat Ipswich celebrated its third mini-Con yesterday, which sought to bring the joys of popular conventions such as Comic-Con to Suffolk.

Hundreds turned up throughout the day to see cosplayers dress up as iconic characters from pop culture, including Master Chief, Spiderman and Black Widow, among others.

A meet-and-greet with Star Wars actors Ross Sambridge, who played a Wookiee and acted as Snoke actor Andy Serkis' body-double, and Chris Bunn, the original Stormtrooper, headlined the list of events that took place at the shop in Upper Brook Street.

It was the third such event since Geek Retreat opened in 2021.

It was hosted in partnership with Synergy Cosplay.

About 14 stalls were brought in by small businesses, which sold a variety of goods, including plushies, artwork and crafts.

All kept to a 'geeky' theme.

The cosplay competition was judged by the mayor of Ipswich, John Cook.

Entrance was free, but the team raised funds for Autism Anglia.

Sharon Lockheart, from Geek Retreat Ipswich, said: "The entire day was amazing and we wanted to thank everybody who turned up.

"It is always fun but the weather was awesome the vendors had amazing geeky items and the cosplayers were fabulous."
