West Meadows Traveller site, off A14 in Ipswich, given green light to expand

A Traveller site on the outskirts of Ipswich has been given permission to expand.

Yesterday, Ipswich Borough Council gave the green light for the owners of West Meadows, off the A14 at Whitehouse, to create five new plots.

The proposals relate to the east of the site and will see existing plots, in addition to amenity space, converted.

Included would be new day rooms and static caravans, alongside landscaping works.

Each caravan will need to be at least six metres apart and a new two metre tall fence will be built on the side facing the A14.

West Meadows has been owned by the site’s occupants since 2017, when it was sold by Suffolk County Council.

Giving its verdict, the borough council stressed that none of the new pitches should be occupied until sewage disposal works have taken place.

Only Travellers will be allowed to occupy the site.

In addition, no more than two caravans should be stationed at the site at any time, it added.
