River Island with stores in Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich to cut 350 jobs

Popular high street fashion store River Island is to cut 350 jobs, it has been announced.

Staff have been told that the retailer, which has stores in the arc shopping centre in Bury St Edmunds and in Ipswich's Sailmakers Shopping Centre, plans to make the cuts as part of an overhaul of the store's management team.

The news comes as River Island, which has more than 320 stores across the UK, saw revenues and customer numbers drop as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

This week it was confirmed that the UK has entered a recession, with figures from the Office of National Statistics showing that 730,000 jobs have been lost since the beginning of lockdown in the UK.
