Norwich City progress to Wembley at Ipswich Town’s expense

Norwich City will face Middlesbrough at Wembley for a Premier League shootout after winning the battle of Carrow Road with a 3-1 success and against 10-man Ipswich Town.

It gave the Canaries a 4-2 aggregate victory against their East Anglian rivals in their Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-final.

After a tense 1-1 draw at Portman Road a week ago, second-half goals from Wes Hoolahan (penalty), Nathan Remond and Cameron Jerome sealed their passage to Wembley on May 25.

Ipswich had shaded the game until a pivotal moment four minutes after the break when Christophe Berra was shown a straight red card for handling Nathan Remond’s shot on the line with Bartosz Bialkowski beaten.

Wes Hoolahan stroked the resultant penalty into the bottom left-hand corner to put them ahead.

But the 10-men from Suffolk struck back 10 minutes later when Tommy Smith rolled the ball past John Ruddy after Daryl Murphy headed down a Teddy Bishop deep free-kick.

But Norwich regained the lead just four minutes later with Redmond’s low angled drive from inside the area, and never looked back.

Jerome was put through by Redmond to touch beyond Bialkowski to add the third in the 76th minute.

Ipswich manager Mich McCarthy said afterwards his side should have had a penalty on Teddy Bishop in the first half, when he went down under a challenge from Redmond.
