No ‘egg-scuses’ to miss out on Non-League Day

Thurlow Nunn League outfit Walsham-le-Willows believe they have come up with a cracking idea to entice people to go to Saturday’s game.

The club is giving away a box of eggs to the first 50 fans through the gate.

This eggstravaganza of generosity is part of national Non-League Day, and the match against Brantham Athletic at Summer Road (3pm kick-off) will also see an appearance by Willows’ mascot Rhode Island Red (pictured).

One step higher in the non-League ladder, Ryman League Division One North outfit Bury Town are also getting in on the act, by offering season-ticket holders at Ipswich Town or other professional sides half-price entry to Ram Meadow tomorrow when they host Great Wakering Rovers (3pm).

Walsham are making sure the yolk’s not on them by giving out the boxes of half-a-dozen egggs after their Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division match against Brantham Athletic is trouble-free.

Giveaways on National Non-League Day really took off last year when Anglian Combination side Bungay Town handed out mushrooms to supporters.

Bury Town manager Ben Chenery, commenting after the club’s unbeaten run ended earlier this week with a 3-1 home defeat to bottom side Heybridge Swifts, the last Ryman League side out of 72 clubs to boast one, said: “I have a lot of young lads here and they are still learning the game.

“I am bearing with them and they listen and learn, but they are not the finished article and two home games will give us the opportunity of pushing on again and I really want to make sure we get a positive result on Saturday.”
