Haverhill Amateur Boxing Club’s Archie Lewzey impresses on skills debut while Isabella Coston wins at Belvedere Amateur Boxing Club in London

Haverhill Amateur Boxing Club’s Archie Lewzey made a big impression during his first ever skills bout at the weekend.

Lewzey featured on the card at the Sudbury Home Show and while there is no winner in a skills contest, young fighters still gain invaluable experience of performing in front of a crowd without the pressure of winning or losing.

Against an older opponent, Lewzey more than held his own and displayed the sort of ability that showed it will not be too long until he is boxing competitively.

A bit further afield, the club’s Isabella Coston travelled to be part of the show at Belvedere Amateur Boxing Club in London.

Faced with her first southpaw opponent, Coston initially had to contend with a 30-second barrage.

However, it did not take the Haverhill fighter long to find her groove and she duly delivered an eight count during the opening round.

She dished out another two eight counts during round two, leaving the referee with little option but to stop the bout prematurely in Coston’s favour. It marked a winning return to action for Coston on home soil after she was defeated in Sweden while captaining the Eastern Counties at the prestigious Golden Girl Boxcup.

The club has another skills bout scheduled this weekend before taking a break from action for a couple of weeks.
