Young cancer survivor meets royalty

A ten-year-old who survived a rare form of cancer thanks to a stem cell transplant at the age of two presented flowers to a member of the royal family during a visit to a specialist blood cancer unit in Nottingham.
Sorrel Mason, from Great Wratting, who was joined by younger sister Daisy, handed the posy to Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Wessex as they visited the Anthony Nolan Trust Cell Therapy Centre.
As a toddler Sorrel was diagnosed with a form of acute myeloid leukaemia and was given a 30 percent chance of survival before having a transplant using stem cells taken from the umbilical chord of a mother in Japan.
