VIDEO: Soldiers honoured at Armed Forces Day
On Monday (June 22), local councillors were joined by the Mayor of St Edmundsbury and his chaplain to mark Armed Forces Day with a ceremonial flag raising outside Haverhill leisure centre.
Councillor Tony Brown, a former military man, was present. He said: “The thing with the armed forces is they’re close to people’s hearts and an intrinsic part of our community. Events like this feel like passing a baton down to the next generation.”
Cllr Brown also said that he hoped next year’s event would be bigger, incorporating a march and a music event to help mark it in a more spectacular way. He also hoped it would be held on a Saturday to allow more people to go.
