Haverhill Rotary Club presents students from Castle Manor Academy, Samuel Ward Academy and Linton Village College with Young Citizen Awards

The outstanding contributions made by young people to their schools and wider communities were recognised at an annual awards night in Haverhill.

Six students; two from each of Castle Manor Academy, Samuel Ward Academy and Linton Village College (LVC) were chosen to receive Young Citizen Awards from the Rotary Club of Haverhill & District.

All bar one of the students, who was unable to attend, collected their awards at a presentation evening at Haverhill Golf Club on Monday.

Castle Manor headteacher Vanessa Whitcombe described the two winners from the school, Ryan Nyazamba and Jessie Lee, as ‘embodying’ its values and as ‘role models’. They are also the school’s head students.

She added: “I’m really proud of everything they do and everything they represent and I just really wanted to say thank you and well done.”

LVC teacher, Nicky Addley, praised its award recipients Rebecca Hine and Jessica Kemshell, the former of whom was unable to make the evening because she was performing in a production of Madame Butterfly.

Mrs Addley told how Jessica was busy raising money to go to Uganda and undertake a charity school building project.

She added: “She is an all-rounder. She is a lovely student. I am her head of year and I am very proud to be her head of year.”

Tom Johnston, head teacher at Samuel Ward Academy told how its award recipients, Anabel Mackenzie and Archie Cook, embody its ideals of being aspirational, brave and compassionate.

He told how Archie, a talented actor and sportsman, was described by his PE teacher as being “an outstanding ambassador for the school”.

Anabel, who is also a police cadet , was described by her form teacher, said Mr Johnston, as someone who constantly goes ‘above and beyond in everything she does’.
