Residents evacuated after collision in Haverhill

Police, gas engineers and the fire service were called to a single vehicle collision in Haverhill last night.
Officers were called at approximately 7pm yesterday, (Friday), following reports a gas main had been damaged following the collision in Sturmer Road.
A 22-year-old man from the Haverhill area has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision, and was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Sturmer Road was closed between Boundary Road and Falcon Road, and a small number of residents were evacuated as a safety precaution.
