Haverhill school's new head teacher says landing the job is a 'very proud' day for her
The new headteacher of a Haverhill primary school has spoken of her pride and outlined her vision after landing the top role.
Westfield Primary Academy, in Chalkstone Way, has ensured smooth continuity after deputy headteacher Fiona-Catherine Thompson was appointed headteacher from September.
She will be replacing Toni Kittle, who will be moving to a central role within Unity Schools Partnership, of which Westfield is a member school.
Mrs Thompson, who has been at Westfield for two years, said: “I have loved my time at this school and I am very proud to be the new headteacher.
“We have been on a brilliant journey and I look forward to continuing that in our bid to create a centre of excellence within Westfield –one that the school, the town and the whole of Suffolk can be proud of.
“We have some fantastic facilities, amazing staff who are really committed to providing the best education for our pupils and a really great and supportive relationship with our families.”
Prior to moving into education, Mrs Thompson was a freelance picture editor for a number of national newspapers as well as working for Contact, a family children’s charity and managing an award-winning pre-school programme.
She added: “After such a difficult year for everyone, I am looking forward to bringing new opportunities to our pupils.
“We want to work closely with the local community and other partners and we are excited about welcoming our parents back into the building as soon as we can.
“We are also looking forward to offering full time nursery provision from September.”
Mrs Kittle, who will become a Director of Primary Education at Unity, said: “I am very excited about my new role within the trust and the opportunity to help support so many different primary schools.
“I have loved my time at Westfield and I am delighted that Fiona-Catherine will be leading the school going forward.”
Mrs Thompson added: “I couldn’t ask for a better trust to work for in terms of support and career progression and I am delighted to still be working with Toni in the future.”
