McDonald's submits plans to build new restaurant in Haverhill

A reserved matters application has been submitted to build a McDonald’s drive-through restaurant in Haverhill.

The proposals, submitted to Braintree District Council, follows an approval for outline planning permission in 2016 for Haverhill Business Park, in Phoenix Road.

The McDonald’s restaurant would be located on vacant land opposite the Travelodge hotel on the 46,000 sqm site.

Access to the restaurant would be created via a new junction on Bumpstead Road, with a pedestrian access point provided in Phoenix Road.

If approved, the building would be constructed to a modern and contemporary design.

A covering statement submitted as part of the proposals said: “The design of the new building has been directly influenced by sustainability and the standard practices to enable the reduction in their carbon footprint.

“Approximately, 90 per cent of new restaurants are built using modular construction techniques, which use considerably less energy, inclusive of the reduction of the total number of deliveries to site during the build.”

It continued: “The construction time is also reduced, minimising the potential disruption to neighbours.”

The restaurant would be able to seat 118 covers, with a children’s play area situated outside.

Detailed plans put forward to Braintree District Council by Planware Ltd, on behalf of McDonald’s, show how the play area would look if given the green light.

Having considered the application, Sturmer Parish Council, National Highways and Natural England made no objections.
