Latest priorities set by Haverhill Police SNT

Issues of drug taking, anti-social behaviour and selfish parking in Haverhill have become the new priorities for the town’s Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT).

The priorities were selected via a public vote when the SNT public forum took place at the arts centre on Monday (8).

A total of 16 priorities were suggested prior to the meeting and then whittled down to a final list of seven options - in some cases suggestions were merged together - before votes were taken by those at the gathering or by people watching the meeting online.

Two suggestions ended up joint top of the list, each receiving a total of 26 votes.

One was the issue of alleged drug taking and anti-social behaviour on the Recreation Ground (particularly near to the health centre), Aeroplane Pak, Parsonage Gardens, Moat Walk, the site of the former Castle Hill Middle School and other sites as they come to light in the three month period during which the priorities will run.

The third priority is inconsiderate and illegal parking, particularly in Queen Street, the Hollands Road/Duddery Hill junction, Hamlet Road, outside the shops at the bottom of Duddery Hill, opposite Elmhurst Road in Hamlet Road, parking across school gates, Burton End, between School Lane and Castle Avenue and the Meadowlands development, especially in Colbeck Road and Hales Barn Road.

The third and final priority selected, with 20 votes (13 online), was for a festive clampdown on potential anti-social behaviour including high visibility patrols in the High Street to reassure the public and deter criminals, friendly visits to Haverhill supermarkets as they become very busy (particularly when the schools break-up) and drunk and abusive party goers.
