The owner of Haverhill-based American diner, Route 66, grateful for customer support after calling it a day

The owner of a Haverhill restaurant said his final weekend of operating the business was ‘super busy’ with lots of people wishing him well.

After 11 years of running Route 66 American Diner in High Street, Sam Clark closed the doors for the last time on Sunday.

He has sold the business and now wants to, he said, spend more time with his family and be in a job with more sociable hours.

Just prior to his final weekend, Sam posted on social media: “Thank you all so much for your custom over the years, it means more to me than you probably realise.”

Sam understands that the new owner intends to continue operating the restaurant in the style of an American diner, although it will be closed for a short while to allow some changes to be made.

Of his last weekend, Sam said: “It was super-busy. Everyone was really nice and coming in and well-wishing, which was good.

“It was a nice way to finish.”
