A Haverhill resident has described the moment lightning struck his home

The occupant of a house hit by lightning has described the moment of impact as sounding ‘like a missile’.

The lightning struck the terraced property in Atterton Road in Haverhill just before 11am today.

Occupant Mathew Cherian, who shares the rented house with two other people, said the impact damaged the TV antenna on the roof, which was also damaged, and caused an electrical socket behind the TV to blow out, scattering debris across the the living room.

Mr Cherian said he was making a coffee in the kitchen when the lightning struck, adding: “It was like a missile is coming. There was a huge sound, a huge sound.”
