Haverhill summer event set for a speedy opening
Haverhill’s Summer Bash will get off to a running start this year – literally.
The town will hold a 5 kilometre fun run in Haver5 – the Haverhill Summer Bash Fun Run, to ensure even more funds are raised for local good causes than before.
Haver5 will build on the success of athletics events held in Haverhill for the first time last year and see novices, families and experienced runners invited to tackle a 5k town centre route.
Runners will set off from Haverhill’s recreation ground at 10am on the July 19 event.
The race is organised by HaverSports, which has brought hundreds of athletes to Haverhill to raise thousands of pounds for local charities with races also including Haver10 – the Sanofi 10k, and HaverHalf – the Real Bodies Half Marathon.
Race director Jack Tappin said: “HaverSports’ events so far have illustrated the thriving athletics scene in and around Haverhill, so I trust that will continue to be evident in Haver5.
“Haver10 had a fun run this year which was well supported, so there’s clearly the appetite for beginners to tackle shorter distances and for the athletes of tomorrow to start getting into running.
“Haver5 will offer an ideal opportunity for runners of all abilities, including children and their families, to enjoy a running experience and see Haverhill.”
David Doughty, who organises the Summer Bash, said: “This event is all about raising money for local charities, and given HaverSports’ impressive fund raising in 2014 we were keen to collaborate to raise even more for Haverhill’s good causes in 2015.
“Haver5 will offer a fun filled way for the Summer Bash to begin, with families and runners getting to enjoy a challenge before the main day gets started.”
