Ofsted inspectors have classed Westfield Primary Academy as a ‘Good’ school after their two-day visit last month - much to the delight of head of school Nicky Tyler.

The Haverhill school was last inspected in 2010 when it was found to be ‘Good with outstanding features’ but with inspections now being more demanding, the new grading has been even more pleasing for Miss Tyler.

She said: “It’s a lot harder to get a good so we are really pleased.

“I am so proud of all the staff and the pupils and the community really.

“For us to get a good is fantastic.”

Miss Tyler also emphasised how the support of the Samuel Ward Academy Trust- which Westfield joined in 2013 - has helped improve the 382-pupil school as well.

She added: “We have always thought Westfield was a good school but now it’s been proven.”

Among the comments of praise included in the Ofsted inspectors report were; ‘Achievement is good and standards are rising across the year groups,’’the quality of teaching is good this enables pupils to achieve well across all areas of learning,’ ‘the behaviour of pupils is good, pupils learn and play harmoniously together,’ ‘they are polite and courteous around the school,’ ‘leadership is good and the governors support them in raising achievement and improving teaching,’ and ‘the academy trust has provided excellent support and challenge.’
