POSSIBLE ROAD SOLUTION FOR NEW TESCO STORE

For the first time a scheme was officially put forward to redirect the main road through Haverhill to go around the top of the proposed news Tesco store in Station Yard.

The proposal could see the Pightle and Lordscroft Lane pedestrianised, thereby preventing traffic from having to be routed close to the two streets.

The idea was put forward by a resident and would go before the planning inspector at the public inquiry into the borough council’s Local Plan.

CONTROVERSIAL TOWN COUNCILLOR RESIGNS

Mabon Dane, the founder of the ill-fated Haverhill Representative Alliance (HRA) party, resigned from the council after four years.

He said he was resigning because of an ‘air of intimidation and a culture of bullying’ and called on town council clerk, Gordon Mussett and the mayor, Cllr Tim Marks to resign because of the council’s massively reduced financial reserves.

Mr Dane was awaiting trial at Ipswich Crown Court on 16 counts of possessing child pornography, which he denied.
