FUNDING APPROVED FOR FOOTBALL STADIUM PLANS

Football in Haverhill scored a massive victory, not on the pitch but off it as a £1.5million funding package was agreed by St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s full meeting.

The project would cost £1.9m in total, with the extra funding being sought from the Football Foundation and Football Stadia Improvement Fund and planning permission was still required.

Two possible sites for the new facility, which would include a main stadium and four other pitches, were being considered, with plans being drawn up.

The two sites were the Chalkstone Playing Fields and Puddlebrook,

MP FURIOUS AT HEALTH CUTS

West Suffolk MP, Richard Spring, warned that patients and NHS staff would suffer as a result of debts of more than £9million accrued by the Suffolk West Hospitals NHS Trust.

The MP said the deficits were due to ‘utter incompetence’ and that he had been warning the trust about the problem for 18 months.
