WELCOME TO CHAVERHILL
Unwelcome and probably undeserved as it was, Haverhill attracted the wrong kind of publicity when it was included on a website devoted to so-called ‘chav towns.’
It nestled alongside towns such as Basildon, Chelmsford, Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds as one of hundreds of UK towns listed on the website, www.chav-towns.co.uk.
Messages posted on the site claimed the Haverhill chav’s main accessory was a car equipped with lights and a loud stereo, which they exhibited in Aldi car park at night.
COUNCILLOR DENIES INTERNET CHILD PORN CHARGES
Haverhill town councillor Mabon Dane pleaded not guilty to all 16 counts of making indecent images of children and not guilty to one count of possessing images of children as they were read out to him at Ipswich Crown Court.
Dane, who was later convicted of the charges, entered the pleas during his preliminary hearing at the court.
The 35-year-old was the founder member of the Haverhill Representative Alliance (HSA).
