Three West Suffolk companies have appeared in court charged with failing to protect people from health and safety risks.

Worksafe Training Consultancy Ltd, in Bury St Edmunds, and Leading Health and Safety Ltd, in Haverhill, both allegedly failed to provide health and safety consultancy services in such a way as to ensure that Caine Heathcote and Stefan Puricel were not exposed to risks of serious injury resulting from operating biscuit jointers and overhead router machines in Haverhill between May 2 and August 1, 2013.

Jan Cavelle Furniture Company Ltd, in Haverhill, has admitted two offences of failing in its duties as an employer to ensure the health and safety of Caine Heathcote and Stefan Puricel, in Rookwood Way, Haverhill.

Managing director Jan Cavelle pleaded guilty on behalf of Jan Cavelle Furniture Company to both offences at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court today.

No indication of pleas were given for Worksafe Training Consultancy, represented in court by its managing director Russell Fife, or Leading Health and Safety, which was represented by its company director Anthony Baker.

Both firms are due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on August 4.

Jan Cavelle Furniture Company will not be sentenced until after the conclusion of the case involving the two consultancy firms.
