Haverhill Golf Club hosts charity day of competition
Fundraisers got into the swing of it at a charity golf day in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.
Golfers packed onto the fairways at Haverhill Golf Club to raise £1,723 for the hospice by taking part in the Jan Bowers and Past Member Memorial Trophy.
The event, the fourth if its kind, was organised by Peter Bowers a current member and former captain at the club. Peter’s wife Jan was cared for by the hospice in her final days.
The charity day on September 15 saw 76 players join in the competition which saw teams made-up of players with different handicaps all vying for the top spot.
Peter said: “It was a great day and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
“I am really pleased with how everything went, but the day really wouldn’t be the success it is without the support it receives from local businesses, the golf club, and all those who take part.”
The occasion also included a raffle, with the main prize donated by M.J. Pipe Electrical, and a selection of prizes also provided by many other local businesses, it is estimated that the raffle added £700 to the total.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the raffle.
"Especially Norma Humphries for organising it all and Spencer Tatum for the support he gave,” added Peter.
The funds raised will help fund the service provided by the charity, which cares for those with long-term and life-threatening illnesses, provides.
