Linton Granta players team up to run more than 500 miles for charity

Six team mates from Linton Granta FC defied the heat and blistered feet to achieve their goal last week of running 500 miles between them for charity.

Dubbed the 'Granta Gallopers', the sextet of Andy Palmer, Chris Palmer, Ben De'Ath, Dan De'Ath, Luke Little and Jake Kitchiner set themselves the collective goal of running 500 miles between May 25 and May 31 in aid of the University College London Hospitals Charity UK (UCLH).

The friends had set up a WhatsApp group to keep in touch and encourage each other to stay fit after their football season was ended prematurely by the covid-19 situation.

From that sprang the idea of doing something for charity and they opted for UCLH because Jake has connections with one of the trust's hospitals.

The team had reached 500 miles and broken the £4,500 fund-raising target by Sunday.

Ben explained: "We ended up with 583 miles. I don't know why. I did over my target but some of the lads went way over their targets.

"We've all agreed we won't be running this week.

"We are going to leave the Just Giving page open for a week just to get the total a little bit higher but obviously we are delighted to get over the £4,500 but also to run further than we were planning to; a very satisfying week in that regard but it was a surreal week really. Everyone is alright. We had a disgusting chat about blisters but everyone is fine."
