Hughes store in Haverhill High Street set to close later this month

Hughes Electrical has confirmed it will be closing its store in Haverhill later this month, resulting in four redundancies.

The shop in Haverhill High Street, which sells and rents out electrical items, will close on February 18.

A spokesman for Hughes Electrical said: "Retailing in the UK is changing at an unprecedented rate, greatly accelerated by the pandemic and lockdown."

He continued: "More and more consumers are now turning to the web to make purchases - and if we are to survive as a business we must respond.

"This means taking tough decisions, one of these is the closure of our store in Haverhill, regrettably resulting in four redundancies."

The spokesman said he is 'hopeful' that those affected can be offered news positions within the company.

One Hughes customer Natasha Eaton, 37, said she was 'really disheartened' when she received a letter this morning telling her the shop was closing.

Mrs Eaton said: "The staff in the store are lovely and go above and beyond to help anyone.

"It is sad to see yet another business closing its doors in Haverhill, I wish the staff all the best moving forward."

Hughes customers who have rented equipment from the store should continue to call the same number if they have any questions.

The number will be redirected to the customer service team.
