Fire investigation ongoing after thatched roof collapses due to blaze at Little Thurlow property, near Haverhill




Firefighters are damping down and an investigation is ongoing after a thatched roof collapsed due to a blaze at a village property.

Multiple fire engines, a water carrier and other support vehicles were called at just after 6.30pm yesterday to a detached property in Church Road, Little Thurlow, near Haverhill.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the roof was fully ablaze and had collapsed.

A crew remains at the scene of the incident, dampening down and checking for hotspots.

A suspicious cause for the fire has been ruled out, but due to the scale of the damage to the property, it will take some time to complete the investigation.

Two people were present at the property and were in the care of the ambulance service.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said they were called but were stood down at the scene.

Engines from Woodbridge, Clare and Haverhill attended the scene along with a water tender from Halstead and other support vehicles.

People were advised to avoid the area.
