Fire crews have been battling a huge straw fire since yesterday evening.

Engines were called to the scene at Hall Road, Barnardiston, at 20.43.

100 tonnes of straw had been set alight under suspicious circumstances that have now been reported to the police, the fire service said.

Crews from Clare, Sudbury and Wickhambrook have been taking four to five hour shifts to contain the blaze.

The land surrounding the fire is very dry, so the fire service have been covering the surrounding area with water and are letting the stack burn.

Crews from Wickhambrook returned to the site at 10am.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service said: "Crews were called yesterday evening and could be there for most of the day.

"Due to the size of the fire, it could be even longer than that."

The site of the fire is adjacent to Barnardiston Preparatory School.
