SHAKEN BUT NOT STIRRED AT NEW PARTIES
Young people in Haverhill were given the opportunity to enjoy cocktail parties without getting the worse for drink.
A new idea was launched by the Methodist Youth Club at the Next Door centre beside the methodist church in Camps Road.
Youth club leader Stephen Potts said they hoped to get the cocktail parties going regularly.
“We want to show young people they can enjoy themselves on non-alcoholic drinks. These events have been tried successfully in other areas.”
POLL TAX SHOCKS IN STORE
Local rentpayers who had been given the impression that the community charge wouldn’t make much difference to them were in for a big shock.
According to council treasurers, the charge would be up to £2 a week more for each person than the government had predicted.
The district councils for St Edmundsbury and local Essex and South Cambridgeshire towns and villages all said they feared that the eventual poll tax figures would be a lot higher than had initially been expected.
