Haverhill councillors help town's gymnastics club to improve its facilities

Funding provided by councillors has enabled Haverhill Gymnastics Club to replace ageing equipment.

The financial support from councillors Pat Hanlon, Margaret Marks, John Burns and Elaine McManus saw the Hollands Road club receive £2,000 toward the costs of new mats and a new beam.

The money was provided from their council locality grant funds.

Kevin Woolcott, the club’s director, said the new equipment cost £2,576, and after the locality grants were donated the club put in the remaining money itself.

He added: “The beam that was originally there had probably been around for about 30 years and was a bit old and tired.

“It was serving a purpose but it was getting to the point where it was not going to meet our serviceable requirements, it was in definite need of changing and the matting that was around it. It does look really good.”
