Burglar ordered to pay back remaining assets

A man who burgled a Haverhill home has been ordered by a judge to hand over his remaining assets.

Traian Vasiluta was involved in burgling nearly 40 homes across three counties. Though he benefited from his crimes by tens of thousands of pounds, he now has just £7,318 left, Ipswich Crown Court heard on Friday (July 17).

Vasiluta, who in November was jailed for seven years and four months, had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle.

Among the properties targeted were homes in Redshank Close and Jay Close in Haverhill.

Vasiluta, of Martin Road, Ipswich, was one of a three man gang who used homemade tools to smash open windows and patio doors which would normally be considered resistant to attack

The hearing was told that specialist financial investigators had established Vasiluta’s benefit from the 38 burglaries he admitted was £70,194.

Mr Recorder Ian Evans ordered Vasiluta to hand over his last remaining £7,318 within the next four months. Failure to comply with that deadline will result in a further four months imprisonment.

The court heard that Vasiluta was detained when police stopped a car in Ipswich and discovered that he had a window smashing device on a cord around his neck.
