Haverhill man convicted of carrying a bladed item just two days after his arrest

A man arrested in Haverhill town centre on suspicion of carrying a bladed item has been handed a suspended prison sentence by magistrates.
The man was arrested at 8.25pm on Saturday in Market Square during the free music event, Great Big Tribute Night 2.
He was taken to the police investigation centre in Bury St Edmunds for interview and was charged the next day with possession of a bladed item in a public place.
Nobody was harmed as a result of the incident.
Jason O’Reilly, 50, of Pipers Close in Haverhill then appeared before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.
He was given a 12 week custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months.
O’Reilly was also ordered to pay £60 in costs and a £122 victim surcharge.
