Long-held dreams of Haverhill Gymnastics Club to have its own centre will be over on November 2 when its new home opens.

The club has been meeting at Haverhill Leisure Centre for years, but with a membership of 260 and an ever-growing waiting list that now stands at almost 500 the need to have its own premises is clear.

In 2013 the club began searching for empty industrial units in Haverhill and last November they found a place in Hollands Road.

A change of use application from industrial to leisure use was successful and the building is now being readied for the opening.

Now the club is to hold its final meeting at the leisure centre on October 24 before opening the new facility.

Club chairman, Kevin Woolcott, said: “We’ve got the full competition floor, we’ve got all the beams and all the tumble tracks, everything is in place.

“Once we are in the door and have got things moving and are less stressed, we will have a grand opening.”

The club aims to have an Olympic medal winning gymnast attend the grand opening.

The new centre will open from 4pm to 8.30pm/9pm, Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays. Children’s gymnastics parties can be held on Saturday’s between 4pm and 7pm and on Sunday’s by appointment.

The club will offer classes from pre-school to adults and extra pre-school sessions will be held daily during the daytime (timetable to follow) with new classes for home educated children in the day time, timetable also to follow.

Membership is to grow to 500 plus in the first three months with further growth to 700 over the next three years.

Anyone wishing to join can do so via the Haverhill Gymnastics Ltd page on Facebook or by emailing headcoach@haverhillgymnastics.org.
